The premiere date for Season 2 of *The Walking Dead: Dead City* was unveiled during IGN Fan Fest 2025, set to captivate fans on May 4, 2025. IGN provided an exclusive sneak peek and a detailed interview with key figures from the show, including Scott Gimple, the chief content officer of The Walking Dead universe, along with Maggie actor Lauren Cohan and Negan actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Lauren Cohan shed light on Maggie's mindset as they dive into Season 2, stating, "Sadly not everything is quite as rosy as it could be or seems or one would hope." She elaborated on the challenges Maggie faces, not only in the apocalyptic world but also in her personal life. "My son is still a teenage boy and there are these natural tensions of navigating just family life. And I’ve got Ginny in my care and she’s a teenage girl. And so there are very relatable domestic dynamics that are playing out as we come back in Season 2, on top of this apocalyptic world and trying to eat and stay safe and sleep. That’s where we find ourselves before another big bad thing happens."
Jeffrey Dean Morgan discussed Negan's journey, noting the character's shift from being widely despised to a fan-favorite. He revealed Negan's precarious position at the start of the season, saying, "We find Negan very much under the thumb of The Dama and The Croat, and on some ground he’s not real familiar with. He’s going to try to flip that script, of course. But he’s in a place that I don’t think he’s enjoying very much. At the beginning of the season we find him having a hard time with all of it. He’s always scheming and trying to figure out how he can get on top of the situation, but he finds himself in a hard spot."
Morgan also touched on Negan's iconic weapon, Lucille, a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire, named after his deceased wife. "The Lucille of it all, what can I say?" he said. "I love that thing! But I as an actor, that’s the only prop I’ve ever had my whole life I enjoy carrying around with me. It brought back very fond memories for me. Not for Lauren!"
Scott Gimple discussed the evolving dynamics and conflicts for Season 2, explaining, "There is no single big bad. There’s a lot of shifting as far as the power ranking for this season. It isn’t all antagonistic. It’s a little more complex like that. It’s a little more political. And then we get kinda physical."
IGN also released the opening minutes of the first episode of Season 2 of *The Walking Dead: Dead City*, offering fans an early glimpse into the new season.
