BioWare delivers both good and bad news for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The game will launch without Denuvo DRM, but PC players will miss out on preloading.
No DRM for Dragon Age: The Veilguard – A Win for Players
Preload Unavailable for PC
Michael Gamble, the project director for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, announced on Twitter (X) that the game will not utilize Denuvo DRM on PC. This decision, driven by BioWare's trust in its players, has been met with positive reactions. Denuvo, while popular with publishers, often causes performance issues, making this a welcome choice for many PC gamers.
The absence of DRM does, however, mean there will be no preload option for PC players. This could be a setback considering Veilguard's substantial 100GB storage requirement. Console players, however, will still be able to preload. Xbox early access players can install now, while PlayStation early access players will have access starting October 29th. Gamble also confirmed that the game will not require an always-online connection.
BioWare also revealed the system requirements. High-end PCs can leverage ray tracing and uncapped frame rates. Minimum specs prioritize accessibility. Consoles (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S) offer fidelity and performance modes targeting 30 and 60 FPS, respectively. To fully utilize ray tracing on PC, players need an Intel Core i9 9900K or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X processor, 16GB of RAM, and either an Nvidia RTX 3080 or AMD Radeon 6800XT graphics card.
