Top Khonshu Decks for Marvel Snap Revealed

Discard players, get ready to celebrate. Khonshu, the God of the Moon, has made his grand entrance into *Marvel Snap*, bringing an exciting new element to discard-focused strategies. As one of the most complex cards released by Second Dinner to date, let's delve into the intricacies of how Khonshu functions within the game.

How Khonshu Works in Marvel Snap

Khonshu enters the fray as a 6-cost, 5-power card with a unique ability: When discarded, it returns in its next phase. On Reveal, it resurrects a card you discarded to another location, setting its Power to 5.

Khonshu's 'next phase' evolves into a 6-cost, 8-power card. When discarded, it returns in its final phase. On Reveal, it resurrects a discarded card to another location, boosting its Power to 8.

Khonshu's 'final phase' culminates as a 6-cost, 12-power card. On Reveal, it resurrects a discarded card to another location, setting its Power to a formidable 12.

Each time Khonshu is discarded, he returns to your hand and upgrades, enhancing his On Reveal effect significantly. This mechanic mirrors the functionality of Apocalypse, making Khonshu a valuable asset in discard decks. The strategy typically involves discarding Khonshu one or two times before deploying him on the final turn, reviving a card that benefits from a power increase, such as Iron Man or Gorr the God Butcher.

Despite Khonshu's inability to revive a specific card, utilizing his final phase to resurrect a 1-cost, 12-power Meek on turn 6 can often secure victory.

Best Day One Khonshu Decks in Marvel Snap

Determining the optimal deck for Khonshu will require extensive experimentation, as he doesn't seamlessly integrate into traditional discard decks. However, he appears to be a promising addition to a Darkhawk-style Stature list and other innovative discard-type decks. Let's examine the former:

  • Korg
  • Blade
  • Fenris Wolf
  • Juggernaut
  • Moon Knight
  • Lady Sif
  • Rock Slide
  • Silver Samurai
  • Darkhawk
  • Black Bolt
  • Stature
  • Khonshu

The only Series 5 card in this lineup is Fenris Wolf, crucial for resurrecting an opponent's discarded card from Moon Knight, Silver Samurai, or Black Bolt, often clinching victory.

The strategy with this deck is straightforward: fill your opponent's deck with rocks to maximize Darkhawk's power, while discarding Khonshu as frequently as possible. Moon Knight and Blade are key to repeatedly hitting Khonshu, while timing is essential to ensure Moon Knight targets Khonshu instead of Rock Slide.

Play Stature early to set up for Darkhawk on turn 5 and Khonshu on turn 6, reviving a card with 8 to 12 power. Given that all these cards have less than 8 power, Khonshu directly amplifies their effectiveness.

While Khonshu may not replace Apocalypse in traditional discard decks, there's potential for experimentation. His 6-cost nature makes it challenging to pair him with Apocalypse without energy ramp, as seen in the following list with Corvus Glaive:

  • Miek
  • Scorn
  • Blade
  • Morbius
  • Swarm
  • Moon Knight
  • Corvus Glaive
  • Lady Sif
  • Dracula
  • MODOK
  • Khonshu
  • Apocalypse

Scorn, the only Series 5 card here, can be swapped with another discard activator like Colleen Wing or X-23 for additional energy ramp.

This deck leans towards a traditional discard style but hinges on activating Corvus Glaive on turn 3 to enable playing Khonshu alongside other discard activators. This strategy aims to bolster Apocalypse and flood the board. Whether it outperforms traditional discard decks without Khonshu is yet to be determined, but with Moon Knight, Blade, and Lady Sif, reaching Khonshu's final phase should be feasible while maintaining Apocalypse's strength for Dracula to absorb.

Is Khonshu Worth Spotlight Cache Keys or Collector’s Tokens?

Regardless of your affinity for discard decks, Khonshu's power and intriguing mechanics make him a worthwhile addition. He is likely to become a key component in hybrid discard lists and could very well become meta-relevant. If you have the resources, investing in Khonshu is a smart move.
