The buzz around a potential Tony Hawk's Pro Skater remake just got louder, with Singapore's rating board adding fuel to the fire by rating "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4" for a 2025 release. This rumored collection, which would include the next two mainline entries in the iconic skateboarding series, is set to launch across a wide array of platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. This broad platform support suggests a major release that aims to cater to a diverse gaming audience.
While no official confirmation has been made yet, excitement is building, especially with a countdown timer spotted in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 hinting at some Tony Hawk's Pro Skater news coming soon. The timer is set to end on March 4, 2025, which could be the day we finally get the official announcement.
Adding to the speculation, Tony Hawk himself has been dropping hints. In a recent interview with Mythical Kitchen, Hawk revealed that he's been in discussions with Activision and that they are working on something new. "It will be something the fans will truly appreciate," Hawk teased, stirring anticipation among the franchise's loyal fanbase.
The success of the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 remake in 2020 set a high bar, making a follow-up with games 3 and 4 seem like a natural next step. However, the development path hasn't been straightforward. After the release of 1+2, the original developer, Vicarious Visions, was absorbed into Blizzard in 2021 to focus on other projects. This shift left Activision searching for a new studio to take on the challenge of remaking 3+4.
According to Tony Hawk, the plan to remake 3+4 was in place "even up until the release day" of the 1+2 remake. But with Vicarious Visions no longer available, Activision explored other options. In a 2022 Twitch livestream, Hawk explained, "The truth of it is that [Activision] were trying to find somebody to do 3 + 4 but they just didn’t really trust anyone the way they did Vicarious, so they took other pitches from other studios. Like, ‘What would you do with the THPS title?’ And they didn’t like anything they heard, and then that was it."
The big question remains: if Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 is indeed in the works, who is developing it? The Singaporean ratings board only lists Activision as both the publisher and developer, leaving fans eager to discover who's behind the project. With the countdown to March 4, 2025, ticking away, it looks like we won't have to wait much longer to find out.
