Nintendo Switch 2: Official Reveal Expected on January 16th
According to a reputable leaker, NateTheHate, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be officially unveiled on Thursday, January 16th, 2025. This aligns with past Nintendo announcement patterns, notably the original Switch reveal, which also occurred on a Thursday. The Verge's Tom Warren has corroborated this information. An early 2025 reveal strongly suggests a first-half 2025 release.
The Switch 2's existence has been widely anticipated, with mass production reportedly commencing in late September or early October 2024. Numerous hardware leaks have further fueled speculation. Nintendo itself previously committed to an announcement before March 31st, 2025.
Extensive Leaks Precede Official Announcement
The upcoming announcement might not be a complete surprise, given the sheer volume of leaks surrounding the Switch 2 over the past months. These leaks have been so extensive that Nintendo even addressed a replica console, a rare acknowledgment of pre-release information.
Speculation points to a slightly larger console than the Switch OLED model (approximately 270 x 116 x 14mm) with an 8-inch LCD screen. Magnetically attaching Joy-Cons are anticipated, with the right Joy-Con potentially featuring a new "C" button below the home key—its function remains unclear, but it may be linked to a rumored mouse-like pointer mode.
Launch Game Lineup Remains Unclear
Unlike the hardware details, the Switch 2's launch game lineup remains largely unknown. While games like My Time at Evershine and Bestiario have been confirmed, neither is expected to be a day-one release if the console launches in the first half of 2025. Nintendo will likely leverage one or more first-party titles to drive initial sales.
