To enhance gameplay and increase the popularity of underused characters like Storm and Black Widow, NetEase Games introduced significant balance adjustments to the heroes of Marvel Rivals as Season 1 kicked off in January. These changes have notably transformed the game's dynamics.
Storm, in particular, has experienced a remarkable transformation following these updates. Her popularity and effectiveness have surged, propelling her to the top of the win rate charts as reported by Rivals Meta. Previously struggling to make an impact, Storm now boasts a win percentage over 56% in competitive mode, with her pick rate soaring to 16%. This is a stark contrast to her former obscurity, where she barely registered a 1% pick rate. Storm is now outshining formidable heroes like Adam Warlock, Jeff, Spider-Man, Hela, Hulk, Magic, and Iron Man.
Despite Storm's rise, the duo of Cloak and Dagger remains the most popular pairing of the season, though their win rate has dipped below 49%. On the other end of the spectrum, Black Widow continues to be the least favored and least effective character in the game.
Marvel Rivals is witnessing growth with hundreds of thousands of players engaging with the game, including its competitive mode. The Grandmaster title, achieved by only 0.1% of players, remains a coveted achievement despite the existence of the Celestial rank. Attaining such a high rank is challenging, yet one player has achieved an extraordinary feat during Season 1. Playing as Rocket Raccoon, this player reached Grandmaster without taking any damage across 108 games, focusing solely on healing teammates. They managed to restore over 2.9 million health points and recorded nearly 3,500 assists without being knocked out once.
