Oscar Isaac's Star Wars Celebration 2025 Appearance Fuels Poe Dameron Return Speculation
Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac's confirmed appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo (April 18-20) has ignited fan speculation about a potential return of his character, Poe Dameron. The announcement, made via the official Star Wars Celebration Instagram, follows Daisy Ridley's 2023 Celebration appearance, where she announced her involvement in a new Star Wars film.
The Sequel Trilogy concluded in 2019 with The Rise of Skywalker, and Isaac's stance on returning to the franchise has evolved. Initially expressing reluctance, stating in 2020 that he'd only return for "another house or something," he later told Variety in 2022 that he was "open to anything," indicating a shift in perspective.
Isaac's past criticisms of Disney, including their rejection of his proposed romance between Poe and Finn (played by John Boyega), have also been noted. Boyega, who similarly voiced past reservations about his Star Wars experience, has also expressed openness to future roles.
This confluence of events has fueled speculation about a reunion of the Sequel Trilogy's main trio – Rey, Finn, and Poe – in the upcoming Rey film. This film, set approximately 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, centers on Rey's efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order. Ridley has already expressed her desire for Boyega's return.
However, the film's release remains uncertain due to Disney's repeated delays of multiple Star Wars projects. Directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the earliest possible release date for the Rey film is now December 17, 2027. Star Wars Celebration 2025 might offer some clues, but fans may have a considerable wait for definitive answers.
