Square Enix Developer Confirms Full Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy for Nintendo Switch 2

By MatthewMay 25,2025

In the latest installment of Nintendo's Creator's Voice series, Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of the Final Fantasy Remake series, announced that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. This exciting news marks a significant milestone for fans, as Intergrade is the enhanced PS5 version of the 2020 PS4 release, Final Fantasy VII Remake, which is the first installment in the remake trilogy that expands on the iconic 1997 PlayStation RPG, Final Fantasy VII.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, which is currently available on PS5 and PC, brings several enhancements over the PS4 version, including improved graphics and lighting. It also includes the Intermission DLC, which focuses on the adventures of the spirited ninja Yuffie in Midgar.

Hamaguchi highlighted that the capabilities of the Switch 2 will allow the team to recreate Midgar with full specifications. "With the power of the Switch 2, we can now recreate Midgar with full specs," he stated. This technological advancement will enable players to experience the game on Nintendo's handheld platform, adding a new layer of accessibility and convenience. "Being able to play this game on the Switch 2 in handheld mode means you can play it on the train while commuting to work," Hamaguchi noted, emphasizing the portability that will facilitate discussions and shared experiences among players.

The Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will also feature GameChat, allowing players to communicate with friends during gameplay and share their screens in real time. "I’m very excited to see this game playable on a portable system," Hamaguchi expressed, adding, "I have high hopes that we can build a strong partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy brand."

While only Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has been confirmed for the Switch 2 at this point, Hamaguchi hinted at future releases, saying, "I hope players are looking forward to the Final Fantasy VII Remake series on Switch 2." This suggests that subsequent titles in the trilogy, such as Rebirth and the final installment, may also make their way to the Switch 2.

The announcement is particularly noteworthy given the series' history. The Final Fantasy franchise began on Nintendo consoles before transitioning to the PlayStation 1 with Final Fantasy VII, the first entry to utilize 3D graphics. With this remake, fans will finally see Final Fantasy VII available on Nintendo hardware, bridging a significant gap in the series' legacy.
