God of War Ragnarok's Rating on Steam are 'Mixed' as Sony Faces PSN Requirement Backlash Again

The passionate God of War community has unleashed a storm of discontent, resulting in a wave of negative reviews for God of War Ragnarok on Steam due to Sony's contentious PlayStation Network (PSN) account requirement.

Upon its recent launch on Steam for PC, God of War Ragnarok has been met with a 'mixed' user score. The game's rating has been significantly impacted by a surge of negative reviews, primarily driven by Sony's unpopular mandate that players must have a PSN account to play this single-player action-adventure title. Released just last week, God of War Ragnarok currently holds a 6/10 rating on the platform.

Sony's decision to require a PSN account for God of War Ragnarok on PC has bewildered many fans, fueling the negative review-bombing campaign. Despite the uproar, some players have reported being able to enjoy the game without linking a PSN account. One user shared, "I get why people are upset about the PlayStation account stuff. It sucks when developers stuff online features into a single-player game. But I don't even understand because I could play fine without logging in. It sucks because those reviews are gonna turn people away from an incredible game."

Another player expressed frustration, stating, "PSN account requirement kills the excitement, launched the game and even logged in but it gets stuck on the Black screen, didn't play the game but it shows I played it for 1 hour 40 minutes, how ridiculous that can be."

Despite the backlash, there are still players who have left positive feedback, praising their experience with the game and attributing the negative reviews solely to Sony's PSN requirement. One such player remarked, "Good story as expected. Players are giving negative reviews mostly for PSN. Sony has to look carefully now into this matter. Otherwise, the game is top notch to play on PC."

Sony encountered a similar issue with Helldivers 2 earlier this year when it initially enforced a PSN account requirement for the game developed by Arrowhead Game Studios. Due to widespread criticism, Sony eventually reversed this decision and eliminated the PSN account linking requirement for Helldivers 2.
