The Biggest Roster Yet!
Sega and Sonic Team are teaming up to deliver the ultimate kart racing experience in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, boasting the largest roster in series history! A February 12, 2025 PlayStation.blog post by Sega of America Associate PR Manager Thalia Piedra unveiled exciting new mechanics and features. While the trailer focuses primarily on Sonic characters, the game promises "iconic characters from the Sonic and Sega universes," hinting at a diverse cast beyond the familiar faces. The official website mentions 23 characters at launch, with more to come.
Confirmed characters based on the trailer include Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, alongside Sonic Riders' Jet, Wave, and Storm. Also spotted are Zavok and Zazz from the Deadly Six, Team Dark (Shadow, Rouge, and E-123 Omega), Dr. Eggman, his creations (Egg Pawn and Metal Sonic), the Chaotix (Vector, Charmy, and Espio), and finally, Blaze, Silver, Cream, and Big.

Prepare for a thrilling ride! Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds introduces innovative gameplay with "Travel Rings." These portals transport racers between diverse and dynamic environments called "CrossWorlds" in real-time, adding a surprising twist to every race. According to Piedra, these transitions "bring dramatic changes to races, transporting players from one world to a completely new location." Expect theme park-style excitement with unexpected obstacles, massive monsters, and stunning scenery in each CrossWorld.
Get ready for dynamic tracks that change with each lap, offering a transformative experience inspired by Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. The game features 24 main tracks and 15 CrossWorlds to explore.
Customization, Extreme Gear, and Gadgets Galore!
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds offers the most extensive vehicle customization yet! A February 17, 2025 tweet from the game's official account showcased options to customize vehicle fronts, rears, wheels, colors (body, tires, cockpit, and glow), and more. Players can also equip their characters with 23 different gadgets to optimize their racing strategy. The return of Extreme Gear from Sonic Riders adds a thrilling boost-based racing element with 45 unique original vehicles. Sonic Creative Officer Takashi Iizuka calls it "a great culmination of all the Sonic Racing series games to date."
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Closed Network Test Announced
Closed Network Test Registration is Open!
A Closed Network Test will give players an early look at the game. Registration opened February 12, 2025 and runs until February 19, 2025. The test will be live worldwide from February 21, 2025 to February 24, 2025.
