Death Stranding 2 Details Unveiled at SXSW 2025
10-Minute Pre-Order Trailer Highlights New Characters and Gameplay
Kojima Productions and Sony unveiled the much-anticipated release date for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach (DS2) during the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival on March 9, 2025, in Austin, Texas. The panel, led by DS2 Director Hideo Kojima, kicked off with an immersive 10-minute trailer showcasing new story elements and gameplay footage. The trailer emphasizes the continuation of the game's theme of human connectivity in a post-apocalyptic setting.
Kojima was accompanied by PlayStation’s Global Content Communications Manager Kristen Zitan, as well as DS2 actors Norman Reedus, who reprises his role as Sam Porter Bridges, Troy Baker, and the French Music Director and Designer Woodkid. The trailer introduced a new character, Neil, portrayed by Luca Marinelli, leading a mysterious faction. Fans were quick to notice Neil's resemblance to Metal Gear's Solid Snake, particularly due to his similar headband.
This observation was further validated by Kojima himself, who, in a July 2020 Instagram post, noted that Marinelli, when wearing a bandana, bears a striking resemblance to Solid Snake. The new faction led by Neil is poised to play a significant role in the upcoming sequel to Death Stranding.
Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is scheduled for release on June 26, 2025, exclusively on PlayStation 5. To keep up with the latest news and updates on the game, be sure to check out our detailed article on Death Stranding 2: On The Beach below!
