"Skull and Bones Adds Land Combat in Fall Update: Ubisoft Reveals Year 2 Plans"

By JonathanMay 14,2025

Ubisoft is steering Skull and Bones into an exciting Year 2, promising to make it the most expansive yet with substantial content updates. Fans can look forward to new game modes, ships, and the thrilling addition of a Kraken, but the highlight is undoubtedly the introduction of land combat, a feature long requested since the game's launch last February.

During a special Year 2 showcase that premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled a treasure trove of plans for the upcoming year. The presentation was brimming with exciting content, but it's Season 3: Guts and Glory that has captured the community's attention with its promise of land-based combat. Set to launch this fall, Season 3 will allow players to step away from the sea and engage in swordfights and gunplay on land. This feature is part of the Rogue Warlord additions, where players will explore sandy beaches and damp caves to rescue skilled crewmembers called Officers. A teaser video offered a glimpse of what's to come, though full details will be revealed later this year.

While land combat stands out as the most significant addition to Skull and Bones Year 2, the showcase also revealed a wealth of content to keep players engaged throughout 2025. Season 1, titled Ascent into Chaos, launches today, April 15, introducing a loot-enhancing item ascension feature, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, slated for summer 2025, will bring Megaforts and the impressive Frigate large ships. Finally, Season 4: Eye of the Beast, set for this winter, will introduce the fearsome Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship.

If the latest updates have piqued your interest, you'll be pleased to know that Skull and Bones is hosting a free weekend from April 17 – 21. This is the perfect opportunity for players to experience the pirate PvP action firsthand and take advantage of a reduced purchase price, although the exact discount has yet to be announced.

Skull and Bones launched on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, earning a 7/10 in our review. While Ubisoft has not disclosed official sales figures, they did mention achieving "record player engagement" shortly after release. Interestingly, the launch of Skull and Bones also led to a 200% increase in players for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
