Team Cherry's Marketing and PR Manager, Matthew Griffin, confirms that Hollow Knight: Silksong is indeed real and actively in development, putting an end to recent speculation fueled by a cake-related profile picture change. While the cake incident proved to be a false alarm, Griffin's confirmation on X (formerly Twitter) offers much-needed reassurance to anxious fans.
Official Confirmation from Team Cherry
Following a flurry of fan theories sparked by a cake-themed profile picture update from a co-creator, a YouTuber contacted Griffin to clarify the situation. The profile picture change was, in fact, unrelated to any Silksong announcement or ARG. However, Griffin used the opportunity to provide a significant update, stating definitively, "Yes the game is real, progressing and will release." This marks the first official update on the game's status in over a year and a half.
A Long-Awaited Sequel
Initially unveiled in February 2019 with a projected release in the first half of 2023, Silksong faced a delay announced in May 2023. Team Cherry cited the game's expanded scope and their commitment to quality as reasons for the postponement. The game promises a new kingdom, nearly 150 new enemies, and a challenging "Silk Soul" difficulty mode. The recent update, while brief, is a welcome sign of progress after a near six-year wait.
Fan reaction has been mixed. While some express relief and offer words of encouragement to the developers, others remain impatient, feeling the update lacked substantial details.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is slated for release on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. Players will follow Hornet, the princess-protector of Hallownest, on a perilous journey to the kingdom's peak. While a release date remains unannounced, fans eagerly await further news.
