"The Last of Us Season 2 to Include Brutal Scenes Cut from Game"

By AndrewApr 20,2025

Fans of "The Last of Us" have exciting news to look forward to as HBO's Season 2 will delve into content that was originally cut from the video game "The Last of Us Part 2." According to Neil Druckmann, the showrunner and Naughty Dog studio head, viewers can expect to see "pretty brutal" scenes resurrected for the show. These scenes were part of the Lost Levels, which were partially restored in the PlayStation 5 remaster of the game. The levels in question—Jackson Party, The Hunt, and Seattle Sewers—provide a mix of calm moments and intense horror. In Jackson Party, Ellie attends a social event, while The Hunt sees her tracking a bleeding boar. The tension ramps up in Seattle Sewers, where Ellie is stalked by terrifying monsters in the city's underground tunnels.

Druckmann has also hinted that the inclusion of this intense content will keep fans on the edge of their seats. He expressed his excitement for audiences to experience these scenes and teased the introduction of a "pretty prominent" character who was only referenced in the game, drawing parallels to the character Frank's appearance in Season 1.

Season 2 will introduce a host of new faces, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel, among others. However, the casting of Catherine O'Hara in a mysterious role has piqued fans' curiosity. With the premiere of Episode 1 set for April, viewers won't have to wait long to see these new additions and unravel the mysteries of the season.

Unlike Season 1, which adapted the entire first game into a single season, Season 2 will only cover part of "The Last of Us Part 2." This decision stems from the game's extensive narrative, as noted by co-showrunner Craig Mazin. While Season 3 has not been officially confirmed, Season 2 has been structured to end with a "natural breakpoint" after seven episodes, hinting at more to come.
