Earlier this month, Sadie Sink—who is widely recognized for her role as Max Mayfield in *Stranger Things*—was reported to be joining Tom Holland in the upcoming *Spider-Man 4*. According to Deadline, Sink, who made her film debut in the 2016 biographical sports drama *Chuck*, is set to appear in the new Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) installment. Production on the film is expected to begin later this year, with a scheduled release date of July 31, 2026.
While neither Marvel nor Sony has officially commented on the casting, Deadline speculated that Sink might portray Jean Grey—a popular X-Men character—or “another beloved redheaded Spider-Man character.” Following the report, IGN explored potential Marvel characters that Sadie Sink could bring to life in *Spider-Man 4* and beyond.
In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz, Sadie Sink remained tight-lipped about the Jean Grey speculation but acknowledged that the rumor itself was exciting.
“This is news to me,” she said when asked directly about the possibility of playing Jean Grey or any X-Men-related character.
When questioned whether she had spoken to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige or anyone at Marvel about the role, Sink responded simply: “No. I have nothing to say about this.”
She added, “The rumors are really cool though. It’s an awesome rumor!” Sink also confirmed that she knows who Jean Grey is, calling her “a great character” and saying it was interesting to read about.
On the idea of potentially being cast in a long-term MCU role, Sink said: “I think that’s super exciting.” The conversation then ended, with Sink clearly choosing not to reveal any further details. Host Josh Horowitz hinted that they may revisit this discussion once more information becomes public.

Back in late 2023, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige teased that fans would see “some X-Men players that you might recognize” in the next few MCU films. Speaking at the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore, Feige confirmed that mutants will become increasingly visible in the MCU moving forward.
He explained: “I think you will see that continues in our next few movies with some X-Men players that you might recognize. Right after that, the whole story of *Secret Wars* really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men. Again, \[it’s\] one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back.”
Feige also emphasized that the X-Men will play a major role in the future of the MCU following *Avengers: Secret Wars*. He stated: “When we were preparing for *Avengers: Endgame* years ago, it was a question of getting to the grand finale of our narrative, and then we had to start all over again after that. This time, on the road to *Secret Wars*, we already know very well what the story is going to be until then and afterwards. The X-Men are an important part of that future.”
With Storm already making her MCU debut in *What If...? Season 3*, and three untitled Marvel films scheduled for 2028—including February 18, May 5, and November 10—it’s becoming more likely that one of these will be an *X-Men* movie. In the near term, however, Phase 6 titles like *Captain America: Brave New World*, *Thunderbolts\**, *Avengers: Doomsday*, and *Spider-Man 4* could feature early mutant introductions ahead of the *Secret Wars* event in 2027.
