Highlander Reboot with Crowe and Cavill Confirmed

Russell Croww is poised to reunite with his Man of Steel co-star, Henry Cavill, for the upcoming remake of Highlander.

Initial reports on this significant casting development come from Collider, indicating that the 61-year-old Gladiator star has joined the project in a pivotal role. The film is being reimagined by John Wick creator Chad Stahelski. Crowe is expected to serve as Cavill's mentor, offering a contemporary take on the character originally played by Sean Connery in the 1986 film (via Deadline).

Specific details on how the Highlander remake will modernize the story, along with further casting announcements, are currently kept under wraps. However, Stahelski previously shared with Collider: "We're updating the timeline from the early 1500s Scottish Highlands to settings like modern-day New York and Hong Kong. This shift opens up tremendous opportunities for action sequences… and incorporates an element of romance — though perhaps not in the way audiences might expect."

Cavill's starring role in the new Highlander movie was confirmed back in 2021. Crowe's involvement now reunites the two actors from Man of Steel, where they both appeared in the 2013 Superman film. In that DC project, Crowe portrayed Jor-El, Superman's Kryptonian father and guide. The new Highlander film presents an opportunity to revisit a similar mentor-student dynamic upon its eventual release.

Highlander is scheduled for a theatrical release, though a specific date has not yet been announced. The project is being produced by Amazon MGM and United Artists, with a screenplay written by Michael Finch, known for his work on John Wick: Chapter 4 and American Assassin.

Upon the project's announcement in 2021, Cavill commented: "With my experience in swordplay and the exceptional talent of director Chad Stahelski leading the way, this is a unique opportunity. We are fully immersing ourselves in this franchise, utilizing all available creative resources to craft an unforgettable adventure for me, and hopefully, for all audiences."
