The developers at Jagex revealed that the game is now accessible for early access on Steam, astonishing fans who had only recently seen its first trailer on April 2. Initially introduced in 2022, the game saw alpha testing signups open in late 2024 for a new survival game within the RuneScape universe. Its official unveiling as RuneScape: Dragonwilds came on March 31, 2025.

The team at Jagex is targeting an early 2026 release for Dragonwilds. They emphasized their commitment to delivering a polished, engaging experience, stating, "We want to spend the time to get everything right to ensure our players enjoy a complete, satisfying experience that they'll want to revisit with friends repeatedly."
Jagex's Executive Producer, Jesse America, highlighted that Dragonwilds offers a fresh RuneScape experience tailored for franchise enthusiasts. He noted that the early access phase marks the beginning of their development journey, saying, "Throughout Early Access, we’ll be updating the game regularly with new content and features, while closely listening to the community to create an iconic open-world survival crafting game beloved by both our dedicated RuneScape fans and newcomers."
Early Access Roadmap Revealed
Jagex has shared an exciting early access roadmap, outlining the updates players can anticipate. A highlight is the introduction of Fellhollow, a new region caught between life and death, ruled by the soul-eater dragon Imaru. This region is influenced by the wild anima of Ashenfall and the cursed energy of the Underworld. Players will explore this area alongside the iconic RuneScape character, Death, and encounter new quests, lore, gear, and music, alongside skills in magic, ranged, and farming.
The game will also introduce new enemy types such as Lesser Dragons, dragon slayer gear, a hardcore mode, and a creative mode. Although specific release dates for these updates haven't been set, the developers have promised continuous enhancements throughout the early access period.
