Rune Slayer: Hill Troll Location Guide

By CamilaMar 14,2025

Reaching max level in *Rune Slayer* often leads adventurers to the formidable Hill Troll—a rewarding foe offering both substantial XP and valuable early endgame loot. But finding this behemoth is the first challenge. This guide reveals **how to locate the Hill Troll in *Rune Slayer*.**

Hill Troll Location in Rune Slayer

The Hill Troll resides within a cave nestled on the mountainside in Bahlgar. The easiest access point is via the Lakeshire elevator. Descend to Bahlgar as you would to fight Beastmen, but instead of dropping down to them, follow the mountain's edge. Proceed past the two platinum deposits. The cave entrance is partially concealed on one side of the mountain—a noticeable opening you'll need to jump into (mounting up is recommended). While it might seem tricky at first, reaching the cave becomes second nature after a few visits. See our GIF for a visual guide (we even joined a group battle there!).

Hill Troll – Strategy, Loot, and Quest

Despite its intimidating appearance, the Hill Troll is a relatively manageable mini-boss, especially considering you'll likely face it repeatedly.

Solo attempts are strongly discouraged. Team up (at least one other player) for a safer and more efficient fight. Many players farm the Troll, so finding a group shouldn't be difficult. Its respawn time is a mere 90 seconds after defeat. The Troll attacks with a powerful pillar, its attacks are slow but heavy-hitting. You can parry and block most attacks, but its overhead, two-handed pillar slam should be avoided as it stuns. Deal enough damage to stagger it. Warrior class players will find the Counter ability particularly effective at stunning the Troll.

While rare equipment drops are possible, focus on farming Troll Hides and Troll Heads. Troll Hides are crucial for crafting decent endgame gear, providing a solid upgrade before tackling tougher bosses like the Mother Spider.

The Troll Head is a key item for the repeatable Hodor Quest. Visit Hodor (located near the cave) hourly to exchange the Troll Head for a chance at powerful loot. This quest offers a significant opportunity for high-tier gear, making it a worthwhile addition to your Hill Troll farming routine.

Can You Tame the Hill Troll in Rune Slayer?

No, taming the Hill Troll is impossible, even for Beast Tamer Archers. Its size and status as a mini-boss make it unsuitable as a pet. Stick with your trusty Mud Crab if you’re a Beast Tamer Archer.
