Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA 5 Are Still Selling Very Well

Rockstar Games' enduring success: GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 continue their reign.

Despite their years on the market, Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA 5) and Red Dead Redemption 2 remain top sellers. This enduring popularity highlights Rockstar's consistent delivery of critically acclaimed open-world experiences.

December 2024 Sales Data: PlayStation's December 2024 download charts reveal GTA 5 as the third best-selling PS5 title in both the US/Canada and Europe. It also secured a fifth-place ranking for PS4 in those same regions. Red Dead Redemption 2 achieved the top spot for PS4 sales in the US and second place in Europe.

Long-Term Performance: Released in 2013, GTA 5's continued success is attributed to its initial blockbuster status, subsequent multi-platform releases, and the immensely popular online component. Red Dead Redemption 2, launched in 2018, also achieved significant critical and commercial acclaim.

Year-End European Sales (2024): European sales data for 2024 shows GTA 5 in fourth place (up from fifth in 2023), and Red Dead Redemption 2 in seventh (up from eighth in 2023). Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent company, reported over 205 million sales for GTA 5 and over 67 million for Red Dead Redemption 2.

Future Outlook: The sustained popularity of these titles underscores Rockstar's legacy. Anticipation is high for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6, while speculation abounds regarding a potential Red Dead Redemption 2 port to the Nintendo Switch 2.
