PUBG Creators Announce Palworld Mobile Development

Krafton and Pocket Pair are joining forces to bring the monster-catching game, Palworld, to mobile devices. Krafton, known for PUBG, will leverage its expertise to adapt Palworld's core gameplay for a mobile audience through its subsidiary, PUBG Studios. This licensing agreement signifies a significant expansion of the Palworld intellectual property.

However, details regarding the mobile version remain scarce. The original Palworld, released on Xbox and Steam in January and later on PlayStation 5 (excluding Japan), has already garnered considerable success. The exclusion of Japan from the PS5 launch is reportedly linked to an ongoing lawsuit with Nintendo alleging patent infringement concerning the mechanics of capturing creatures—a similarity some have likened to Pokémon, even dubbing Palworld "Pokémon with guns." Pocket Pair, Palworld's developer, denies any knowledge of the specific patents in question.

This collaboration with Krafton is strategic for Pocket Pair, as adapting Palworld for mobile presents considerable challenges amidst ongoing development of the existing game. While Krafton's involvement is promising, the mobile project is likely in its early stages, and further details are eagerly awaited. Players can anticipate announcements regarding whether the mobile version will be a direct port or a modified experience. In the meantime, the official Steam page offers comprehensive information on the game's features and gameplay.
