Project Mugen Is Now Called Ananta, Devs Drop New Trailer

Announcing Ananta: The Rebranded Project Mugen Open-World RPG

Remember Project Mugen, the highly anticipated urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? It's officially been renamed Ananta.

First unveiled at Gamescom 2023, Ananta (formerly Project Mugen) has finally released a new trailer after a long silence. More details are promised on December 5th, but for now, enjoy the teaser:

The Name Change Explained (Or Not)

While the developers haven't offered an explanation, the name Ananta means "infinite" in Sanskrit, mirroring the meaning of Mugen. The Chinese title further supports this thematic consistency.

The gaming community is divided on the rebranding, but relief is widespread that the project hasn't been cancelled. Comparisons are already being drawn with Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. Ananta's stylish trailer lacks gameplay footage, giving Neverness to Everness a perceived advantage for some. However, Ananta's visual appeal is undeniable to many.

A Curious Social Media Reset

Adding to the intrigue, the development team has deleted all previous social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only the Discord server remains, simply renamed to reflect the title change. This complete social media overhaul has left many players puzzled.

In Ananta, you embody an Infinite Trigger, a paranormal investigator battling supernatural chaos. The cast includes memorable characters like Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
