Exciting news for fans of the iconic franchise: Power Rangers is gearing up for a live-action series set to debut on Disney+. According to The Wrap, the creative minds behind the successful Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, are currently negotiating to helm this new venture. They will write, showrun, and produce the series under the banner of 20th Century TV, aiming to bring fresh excitement to both new and existing fans of the Power Rangers universe.
Hasbro, the current owner of the Power Rangers franchise, is set on reinventing the beloved series to captivate a new generation while maintaining the loyalty of its long-time followers. This strategic move comes after Hasbro's acquisition of Power Rangers and other brands from Saban Properties in a $522 million deal back in 2018. At the time, Hasbro's chairman and CEO, Brian Goldner, expressed enthusiasm about the brand's potential, stating, "We see significant opportunity for Power Rangers across our entire Brand Blueprint, including toys and games, consumer products, digital gaming and entertainment, as well as geographically throughout our global retail footprint."
The Power Rangers franchise, particularly the '90s classic The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, has been a staple in pop culture, enchanting a generation of kids with its teenage superheroes and their impressive mechs. These mechs, which could combine into even larger, more formidable machines, were a key part of the show's allure.

This announcement follows the less successful 2017 movie reboot, which attempted a darker, grittier take on the franchise but failed to resonate at the box office. The subsequent lack of sequels led Saban to sell the rights to Hasbro shortly thereafter.
In addition to the Power Rangers project, Hasbro is also developing other ambitious ventures, including a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series titled The Forgotten Realms at Netflix, an animated Magic: The Gathering series also in development at Netflix, and a cinematic universe centered around Magic: The Gathering. These projects underscore Hasbro's commitment to expanding its intellectual properties across various media platforms.
