Pokécology: The Official Guide to Pokémon Behavior and Ecosystems
Scheduled for Japanese Release in June 2025
The Pokémon Company has partnered with Japanese publisher Shogakukan to create an authoritative guide to Pokémon behavior and ecosystems. Shogakukan confirmed on April 21 that Pokécology will launch in Japan on June 18, 2025.
The encyclopedia is currently available for pre-order at Japanese bookstores for 1,430 yen (tax included). While international availability hasn't been announced, the global Pokémon fanbase can likely anticipate an English edition following the Japanese release.
Scientific Exploration of Pokémon Biology
This unprecedented publication will scientifically examine Pokémon biology, analyzing creature behaviors through ecological principles. The book will document feeding habits, sleep patterns, physical adaptations, and social interactions within Pokémon ecosystems.
The research team includes distinguished animal behaviorists and ecologists from the University of Tokyo. Leading the project is ecologist Yoshinari Yonehara, who conducted field research on wild Pokémon behavior. Illustrator Chihiro Kino, known for scientific wildlife documentation, will provide full-color anatomical drawings.
While previous Pokémon publications focused on combat statistics or gameplay strategies, this marks the franchise's first scientifically-grounded examination of Pokémon biology. The encyclopedia promises to offer fans - especially younger audiences - an educational perspective on their favorite creatures' natural behaviors.
