Donkey Kong is back! Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, a remastered version of the 2010 Wii classic, launches today exclusively on the Nintendo Switch. This 2D side-scrolling platformer delivers a challenging and inventive gameplay experience. Only the standard edition is available, but it includes everything you need. Note that Amazon pre-orders may be delayed; recent Switch releases have launched directly without pre-order availability on Amazon.

What is Donkey Kong Country Returns HD?

This isn't the first re-release for Donkey Kong Country Returns. Following its 2010 Wii debut, Nintendo ported it to the 3DS in 2013, adding eight exclusive levels. This HD version includes all original Wii levels plus those eight bonus 3DS stages.

The game is notoriously challenging. However, this release offers a choice: play the original difficult version or utilize the easier 3DS mode with extra hearts and assistance.

Expect classic platforming action: jumping, vine swinging, barrel blasting, banana collecting, and much more. Two-player couch co-op is also available with Diddy Kong.
