Capcom Unveils Onimusha: Way of the Sword Gameplay and Star
Capcom has treated fans to a fresh look at its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for a 2026 release. The new gameplay footage, showcased during the PlayStation State of Play, highlights the game's impressive sword-based combat and formidable enemies. A significant reveal: the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi will be the protagonist.
The trailer offers a glimpse into Musashi's unparalleled swordsmanship, but also reveals a playful, even comedic side to his personality. Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game featuring one of Japan's most renowned historical figures. Interestingly, Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on the late, celebrated Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune, known for his portrayals of Musashi in various samurai films.
The game is set in a Kyoto overrun by the malevolent force known as Malic, which is summoning demonic entities from Hell into Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades. To further excite fans, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
