Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has announced the cancellation of the game's physical release for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Europe. The publisher cited technical difficulties related to multilingual European localization as the reason for the cancellation.
Delays Leading to Cancellation
The physical release faced multiple delays. Initially slated for March 2023, it was postponed to December 2023, then March 2024, and finally to January 2025 before ultimately being canceled. Pre-orders through retailers like Amazon were affected, with customers receiving notifications of the repeated delays. This series of setbacks ultimately led to the decision to cancel the European physical release.
While Meridiem Games offered little further explanation beyond the initial announcement on Twitter (X), the cancellation is a significant disappointment for European fans. This release would have marked the first official availability of the game in Spanish and other European languages. European players wishing to obtain a physical copy will now need to import a US version.
Omori is a critically acclaimed RPG following Sunny, a young boy grappling with the aftermath of a traumatic event. The game blends reality and Sunny's dream world, where he adopts the persona of Omori. Initially released on PC in December 2020, it expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox release was subsequently removed due to an unrelated issue involving merchandise from the game's developer, OMOCAT.
