The much-anticipated release of the Nintendo Switch 2 has prompted a crucial update from Nintendo, especially for its U.S. fans. The company has issued a release-day delivery warning, highlighting the challenges it faces in meeting the high demand, similar to the situation it encountered in Japan. Those who registered their interest in purchasing a Switch 2 from the My Nintendo Store have been informed that delivery by the June 5 release date cannot be guaranteed.
Nintendo has stated that invitation emails for purchasing the console might be sent out after the Switch 2's launch. However, upon purchase, buyers will receive confirmation of their shipping date. In their statement, Nintendo expressed gratitude for the enthusiasm shown by fans and reiterated their commitment to fulfilling orders as soon as possible, though they cannot ensure delivery by the launch date.
For those eager to secure a Switch 2 at launch, Nintendo suggests pre-ordering through third-party retailers. This advice comes amidst reports that the Switch 2 has already sold out following the opening of pre-orders. Nintendo's statement directed fans to participating retail partners, such as GameStop, although the Switch 2 is currently unavailable there as well. Fans who prefer to wait for an invitation from the My Nintendo Store are advised to take no further action after registering their interest.

The difficulties encountered during the pre-order phase on April 24, coupled with Nintendo's warning, indicate that obtaining a Switch 2 at launch will be challenging. Earlier in the week, Nintendo had warned its Japanese customers that a significant number would miss out on direct pre-orders from the company. Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa reported an overwhelming 2.2 million applications for pre-orders in Japan, far exceeding the available stock for the launch date.
According to an FAQ on Nintendo's website, the first batch of invitations for the My Nintendo Store in the U.S. will be sent starting May 8, 2025. Subsequent invitations will be dispatched periodically until the purchasing process is opened to everyone. These initial invitations will be sent on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible registrants who meet specific priority criteria. Invitees will have 72 hours from the time the email is sent to complete their purchase.
To be eligible for a priority invitation, customers must have purchased a Nintendo Switch Online membership, maintained it for at least 12 months, and opted into sharing gameplay data with at least 50 hours of total gameplay.
Last week, Nintendo confirmed that Switch 2 pre-orders in the U.S. would start on April 24, 2025, with the console maintaining its original price of $449.99 and launch date of June 5. Additionally, the Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle will stay at $499.99, and the prices for both the physical and digital versions of Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong Bananza ($69.99) will remain unchanged at launch. However, amidst ongoing tariff issues, Nintendo has increased the prices of Switch 2 accessories.
Originally, pre-orders were set to begin on April 9, but Nintendo delayed them to assess the impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.
