Nintendo has revealed plans for a Direct presentation spotlighting Switch 2 exclusive Donkey Kong Bananza, airing Wednesday, June 18 at 6am PT/9am ET/2pm BST.
What to Expect From the Donkey Kong Bananza Direct
The 15-minute showcase was first announced through Nintendo's official Today! app. With the Switch 2 launch completed, Nintendo shifts focus to upcoming exclusives—next up being the July 17 release of this 3D platformer.
This presentation will focus exclusively on Donkey Kong Bananza, meaning no reveals or updates for other Switch 2 titles.
Donkey Kong's Fresh Look Explained
The iconic ape sports a redesigned appearance mirroring his Super Mario Bros. Movie iteration. Speaking with IGN, Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto detailed the character's evolution:
"I remain hands-on with character creation. Looking back to Donkey Kong Country, we collaborated with Rare. For newer iterations like Jungle Beat, we worked with Mario's 3D team—leveraging contemporary technology for greater expressiveness."
"When revisiting Rare's original design, we analyzed how to enhance its expressivity. This informed our updated movie design," Miyamoto added.
Bolstering the Switch 2 Lineup
Bananza will expand the Switch 2's growing exclusive catalog, joining launch titles Mario Kart World and Welcome Tour. Other confirmed exclusives include Survival Kids, Kirby Air Riders, and recently announced Splatoon Raiders.
