Nintendo Switch 2 Accessory Prices Rise, Fans React to Increased Costs

By ZoeMay 24,2025

Nintendo has officially announced the pre-order date and pricing details for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 console and its accompanying accessories. While the console's price remains unchanged, the cost of various accessories has seen an increase, sparking discussions among early adopters about their pre-order plans.

The base model of the Nintendo Switch 2 is priced at $449.99, with the bundle including Mario Kart World set at $499.99. The standalone game, Mario Kart World, is priced at $79.99, and Donkey Kong Bananza will cost $69.99.

However, it's the accessory price hikes that have caught the attention of fans. Here's a detailed breakdown of the new prices:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller - $84.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Pair - $94.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip - $39.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Strap - $13.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set - $24.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Camera - $54.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set - $119.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector - $39.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 All-In-One Carrying Case - $84.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter - $34.99

In their official statement, Nintendo explained that the "price adjustments from those announced on April 2 are due to changes in market conditions." A $5 increase is evident across many of the major accessories, such as the Joy-Con 2 Pair, the Switch 2 Pro Controller, and the camera. The Switch 2 Dock Set saw a more significant $10 increase, moving from $109.99 to $119.99.

The price hike for the Joy-Con 2 Pair, now just $5 shy of a triple-digit price, has left many prospective buyers surprised and concerned about the overall cost of owning the new console. The community has been vocal about their reactions to these price changes.

Despite the price increases, there's a silver lining for those who already own Switch 1 accessories. Nintendo has confirmed that several original accessories remain compatible with the Switch 2. This includes the original Joy-Con controllers and the Nintendo Switch 1 Pro controller, which can be wirelessly paired, though not directly attached. Additionally, classic controllers like those for the Super Nintendo and N64 can still be used with compatible games.

Many users are actively discussing the compatibility of their existing Switch 1 accessories or considering third-party alternatives. While these options may not offer the full functionality of the Switch 2 controllers, such as the C-button or wake-up feature, they could represent a cost-saving measure for some buyers.

Nintendo has also cautioned that "other adjustments to the price of any Nintendo product are also possible in the future depending on market conditions." This warning provides some reassurance to those who find the current prices a bit steep, knowing that their existing Pro controllers can still be used with the new console.

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will commence on April 24, 2025, giving fans the opportunity to secure their new console and decide on their accessory purchases based on the updated pricing.
