Team Ninja has rolled out an expansive update for Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, elevating it to version 1.0.7.0. This patch introduces a variety of new features and improvements, including New Game Plus, Photo Mode, and more, catering directly to fan feedback announced back in January. The update is now accessible on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, as well as PC through Steam and the Microsoft Store.
New Game Plus allows players to kick off a new game on any difficulty they've previously mastered, carrying over their weapons and Ninpo. However, these will reset to Level 1 at the start of the new run. Importantly, players cannot directly advance to a higher difficulty using this feature.
Quality of life enhancements include the option to conceal the projectile weapon carried on the player's back. This can be toggled in the Options menu under Game Settings with the "Show Projectile Weapon" option.
On the balance front, Team Ninja has adjusted enemy Hit Points downwards in Chapters 8 and 11, while increasing enemy numbers in Chapters 13 and 14. Additionally, the damage output of some of Ayane's attacks has been boosted.
The update also addresses several bugs, including issues with high-performance PCs, game-breaking bugs in specific chapters, and more. A comprehensive list of patch notes is provided below.
Ninja Gaiden Black 2, which surprised fans with its release during the January Xbox Developer Direct, is an enhanced version of the classic action game, now powered by Unreal Engine 5. This upgrade not only improves graphic fidelity but also introduces new playable characters and enhances battle support functions.
In our review, IGN awarded Ninja Gaiden Black 2 an 8/10, noting, "While fewer enemies with more health might mean it's not the definitive version, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is a stunning and significant improvement over its Sigma 2 predecessor, remaining an outstanding action game."
