Unlocking Chapter Select necessitates completing one of the game's true endings. This involves finishing all three playthroughs and selecting a specific ending during the final confrontation of the third playthrough. While often called playthroughs, some consider each a chapter, given their individual narrative contributions.

After viewing the credits of a playthrough, save your game. Load that save to begin the next section, playing as the designated character. The final playthrough involves multiple character switches; its completion unlocks Chapter Select for that save file.

How Chapter Select Functions In NieR: Automata

Access Chapter Select via two methods:

• From the main menu of your save file upon game launch.
• From any access point within the game world.

This menu lets you select any chapter to load, carrying over all progress, including weapons, level, and items. When loading a chapter involving multiple characters, you can choose which character to play as.
