Nexon has announced the global shutdown of KartRider: Drift, the mobile, console, and PC racing game launched in January 2023. This closure affects all global platforms, but notably excludes the Asian servers in Taiwan and South Korea. While the Asian versions will receive updates, Nexon remains tight-lipped about specific changes and any potential future relaunch of the global version.
The exact shutdown date for the global servers remains unannounced; the game is currently still available on the Google Play Store.
The decision to shut down the global version stems from ongoing challenges. Despite efforts to provide a smooth experience, the game faced significant player frustration due to heavy automation, perceived as monotonous gameplay. Technical issues, including subpar optimization on certain Android devices and numerous bugs, further hampered the game's success. Nexon's revised strategy now prioritizes the Korean and Taiwanese PC versions, aiming for a more faithful recreation of the original game's vision.
