Warner Bros. Games has announced the upcoming closure of MultiVersus, its popular platform fighter, following the completion of its fifth season. The game's final season will launch on February 4th, 2025, and conclude on May 30th, 2025.

Season 5: A Final Farewell

The official MultiVersus Twitter (X) account confirmed the shutdown on January 31st, 2025. Player First Games and Warner Bros. stated that Season 5 will be the game's last content update. This final season will introduce two highly anticipated characters: Aquaman from DC and Lola Bunny from Looney Tunes. Both characters will be unlockable through gameplay. Following the season's end, MultiVersus will be removed from all digital storefronts (PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store). No official reason for the shutdown has been provided.

Offline Play Option

Players will retain access to a local offline mode after May 30th, allowing solo play against AI or multiplayer matches with up to three friends. To enable this, players must download the latest game version between February 4th and May 30th. The game will automatically generate a local save file linked to the player's online account, preserving all earned and purchased content.

Real-money transactions have ceased as of January 31st, 2025. Any remaining Gleamium (in-game currency) can be used until the end of Season 5.

A Brief History and Community Thanks

Initially launched in July 2022 as a public beta, MultiVersus quickly gained popularity as a free-to-play platform fighter. The game underwent a relaunch in May 2024, incorporating new features and improvements. Despite these enhancements, challenges such as technical issues and player count decline contributed to the decision to shut down the online servers.

Upon closure, MultiVersus will have featured 35 playable characters from various franchises. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed gratitude for the community's support throughout the game's lifespan. MultiVersus remains available for download until May 30th, 2025, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
