Player First Games announced the upcoming closure of its platform fighter, MultiVersus, ending its run on May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. Season 5, launching February 4th, will be the game's last.
The studio detailed the discontinuation of support in a blog post. While online play will cease on May 30th, offline access to all earned and purchased content will remain via local and training modes. The developers expressed gratitude to the MultiVersus community for their support.

Real-money transactions are now unavailable, but Gleamium and character tokens can still be used until the May 30th shutdown. The game will also be delisted from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store.
MultiVersus' closure follows reports of its underperformance for Warner Bros. Discovery, resulting in a significant $100 million writedown, contributing to a larger $300 million loss in the games sector. This financial setback coincided with the departure of Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad.
"We took another $100 million plus impairment due to the underperforming releases, primarily MultiVersus this quarter, bringing total writedown year-to-date to over $300 million in our games business, a key factor in this year’s studio profit decline,” stated chief financial officer Gunnar Wiedenfels in a November financial call.
Despite the shutdown, Season 5 will include new characters: Lola Bunny (unlockable via daily calendar) and Aquaman (available through the battle pass), alongside typical seasonal content updates.
