Monster Hunter Wilds has seen its concurrent player numbers decline significantly, bringing it closer to the figures of its predecessor, Monster Hunter World. Keep reading to discover the reasons behind this drop and details about the game's first major collaboration event.
Sharp Decline in Monster Hunter Wilds Player Count
Steep Drop from Over One Million to 40k

Monster Hunter Wilds quickly became one of this year's standout releases, setting a new record as Capcom's fastest-selling game. However, three months post-launch, the initial excitement has subsided, and the number of players actively engaging with the game has noticeably decreased.
As highlighted by Monster Hunter content creator Zenny, the concurrent player count for MH Wilds began a steady decline starting in May, now approaching the levels seen by the older Monster Hunter World. According to SteamDB data, MH Wilds recorded a 24-hour peak of 41,101 players, edging closer to MH World's 26,479 players at the time of this report.
For context, Monster Hunter World boasted over 100,000 concurrent players during its third month on Steam, a figure that surpasses MH Wilds' current count of approximately 40,000. Many players point to a perceived lack of meaningful endgame content as a key factor in this decline, even after the release of Title Update 1. The upcoming Title Update 2, scheduled for this summer, is anticipated to reinvigorate the player base with the introduction of new monsters, in-game events, and additional content.
Monster Hunter Wilds x Street Fighter Collaboration Teaser
A potential collaboration with another beloved Capcom franchise, Street Fighter, is another development that could re-engage the player community. On May 19, the official Monster Hunter social media account shared a teaser image featuring a distinctive paw print rendered in the contemporary urban art style of Street Fighter 6.
While official confirmation is still pending, a collaboration between these two IPs is a strong possibility, given their successful crossover in Monster Hunter World. That previous event introduced armor sets inspired by Ryu and Sakura, premium DLC gestures like the Hadoken and Shoryuken, a Chun-Li costume for the Handler character, and other themed items.

This would mark the first official collaboration for Monster Hunter Wilds, and the community is eager to see how Capcom will design this crossover experience. The Monster Hunter series has a rich history of partnering with various intellectual properties, including past collaborations with Devil May Cry and Sonic in MH4, Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, and Assassin’s Creed and Mega Man in Monster Hunter World, among many others.
Despite the current player count trend, there is a widespread expectation that the MH Wilds community will grow again, fueled by the new content and events planned for the remainder of the year and beyond. Monster Hunter Wilds is playable on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For the latest news and updates on the game, be sure to read our related coverage below.
