Doctor Doom 2099 is a 4-cost, 2-power card with a unique ability: "After each turn, add a DoomBot 2099 to a random location if you played (exactly) 1 card." DoomBot 2099 (also 4-cost, 2-power) provides an ongoing buff: "Ongoing: Your other DoomBots and Doom have +1 Power." Crucially, this synergy extends to regular Doctor Doom and his DoomBots.

Playing a single card per turn maximizes Doom 2099's potential, generating three DoomBot 2099s for substantial power distribution. Early deployment or strategic use of cards like Magik further amplifies this effect. Effectively, Doom 2099 can function as a 17-power card, potentially even higher with optimal play.

However, two weaknesses exist: random DoomBot placement can hinder strategic location control, and Enchantress completely negates the DoomBot buffs.

Best Doctor Doom 2099 Decks

Doom 2099's one-card-per-turn requirement revitalizes Spectrum-centric Ongoing decks. Consider these examples:

Deck 1: Spectrum-focused

  • Ant-Man, Goose, Psylocke, Captain America, Cosmo, Electro, Doom 2099, Wong, Klaw, Doctor Doom, Spectrum, Onslaught

This budget-friendly deck (only Doom 2099 is a Series 5 card) offers flexibility. Early Doom 2099 deployment via Psylocke or turn 3 Electro allows for powerful board control. Alternatively, focus on spreading Doctor Doom's power or utilizing Spectrum's buffs if early Doom 2099 placement fails. Cosmo mitigates Enchantress's impact.

Deck 2: Patriot-style

  • Ant-Man, Zabu, Dazzler, Mister Sinister, Patriot, Brood, Doom 2099, Super Skrull, Iron Lad, Blue Marvel, Doctor Doom, Spectrum

Another affordable deck (only Doom 2099 is Series 5), this strategy employs the classic Patriot approach. Early game cards like Mister Sinister and Brood set the stage for Doom 2099, followed by Blue Marvel and Doctor Doom or Spectrum. Zabu provides cost reduction for early game flexibility. This deck can strategically forgo additional DoomBot 2099 spawns to play two 3-cost cards on the final turn. However, it's highly vulnerable to Enchantress, necessitating Super Skrull as a counter.

Is Doctor Doom 2099 Worth the Investment?

While Daken and Miek (released alongside Doom 2099) are relatively weak, Doctor Doom 2099 is a worthwhile acquisition. His power and deck-building versatility make him a likely meta staple. Prioritize using Collector's Tokens if available; don't miss out on this potentially game-changing card.
