Marvel, Robert Downey Jr. Hint at More Avengers: Doomsday Cast Reveals

By LoganJun 27,2025

Fresh off the news of announcing an additional 26 cast members for the highly anticipated *Avengers: Doomsday*, Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. have hinted that more surprises are yet to come.

Yesterday, Marvel revealed the growing lineup for Avengers: Doomsday during a detailed livestream event that confirmed a wide array of actors joining Robert Downey Jr. in the film, along with the official start of production.

Among the standout announcements was Channing Tatum’s return as Gambit, a beloved X-Men character. See the full Avengers: Doomsday cast list here.

However, several MCU fan favorites were noticeably absent from the initial casting list. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, for example, didn’t make the cut—at least not yet. Similarly, Chris Evans has not been officially announced, despite earlier reports suggesting he might appear in either *Avengers: Doomsday* or *Secret Wars*. Evans later clarified those rumors.

Other notable absences include Hulk, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, and Rhodey. On the mutant side, there’s no sign of Deadpool, Wolverine, Storm, or Jean Grey—characters many fans hoped to see included.

Fan reactions quickly poured in, expressing disappointment over the missing heroes. But is it truly the final word? Shortly after the announcement, Robert Downey Jr.—who will portray Doctor Doom following his iconic run as Iron Man—shared a cryptic Instagram post hinting that this isn't all we'll see.

"That’s what u call a deep bench of talent," RDJ wrote. "Actually it’s more like a row, but an extra long one… That must be it.. right?"

Marvel responded to the post with a comment teasing, “there's always room for more.” The Russo Brothers also chimed in, writing: “It’s time…”

This suggests strongly that the *Avengers: Doomsday* casting announcements aren’t finished just yet. The real question remains—who else could be joining the battle?

In a recent interview, co-directors Anthony and Joe Russo described *Avengers: Doomsday* and *Secret Wars* as a new beginning that will shape the future of Phase 7 and beyond.

“The only thing I’ll say about the movie is this: we love villains who think they’re the heroes of their own stories,” said Joe Russo. “That’s when they become three-dimensional and they become more interesting. When you have an actor like Robert Downey, you have to create a three-dimensional, well-shaped character for the audience. That’s where a lot of our focus is going.”

*Avengers: Doomsday* is currently scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, followed by *Secret Wars* a year later on May 2, 2027. Before that, fans can look forward to *Thunderbolts\** in May 2025, the Disney+ series *Ironheart* in June, and the launch of Phase 6 with *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* in July 2025.

In October, Marvel Studios added three new untitled films to its 2028 release calendar: February 18, May 5, and November 10. Speculation continues to grow that one of these releases may finally introduce the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a major way.
