Marvel Rivals Reverses Controversial Mid-Season Rank Reset Decision
Following significant player backlash, Marvel Rivals has retracted its plan for mid-season rank resets. The developer announced the reversal in Dev Talk 11, a swift response to the negative reception of Dev Talk 10, which detailed a system dropping players four divisions mid-season.
The initial announcement of 45-day (half-season) resets sparked widespread criticism, with players citing the demotivating effect on rank progression. In a significant change of course, Marvel Rivals confirmed that ranks will now remain unchanged until the end of the season. End-of-season resets will still occur, but players will only drop six divisions.
Despite this reversal, other planned updates remain on track. The highly anticipated addition of Human Torch and The Thing, bringing the total roster to 39 heroes, is still scheduled. NetEase Games continues its commitment to releasing two new characters per three-month season. Rewards for Gold rank and above players also remain unchanged, including a free Invisible Woman costume for Gold rank achievers and Crests of Honor for Grandmasters and above. Additional end-of-season rewards will be introduced. While balance adjustments were mentioned, specifics remain undisclosed.
The rapid response to player feedback highlights Marvel Rivals' commitment to community engagement. The developer emphasized its dedication to creating the best possible game experience, directly acknowledging the importance of player input. The mid-season update is slated for release on February 21, 2025. Marvel Rivals is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned for further updates on our Marvel Rivals page.
