Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its flagship Star Wars comic series in May 2025. The new series, picking up after the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, will follow Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa as they strive to establish the New Republic and bring order to a galaxy still reeling from conflict.
Alex Segura, following his Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, pens the new volume. Veteran Star Wars artist Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron) provides the illustrations, with Noto and Leinil Yu creating the covers for the debut issue.
Segura and Noto's Star Wars unfolds approximately two years post-Return of the Jedi, focusing on the aftermath of the pivotal Battle of Jakku. The burgeoning New Republic faces significant challenges as various opportunistic factions—pirates, thieves, and other antagonists—attempt to exploit the power vacuum.
"Having concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can now propel the narrative into a fresh, uncharted era," Segura explained to StarWars.com. "This will introduce new galactic threats, adversaries, and enigmas for our heroes to confront, seamlessly blending the familiar with the unexpected." He added that the stories will be action-packed, feature strong character moments, and be easily accessible to new readers.
Noto expressed his excitement at bringing Segura's storylines and new characters to life, highlighting the opportunity to depict the classic characters in a post-Return of the Jedi setting, free from existing film or television interpretations. He intends to craft fresh visual representations while maintaining a connection to the original actors.
Star Wars #1 launches May 7, 2025, coinciding with Star Wars Day celebrations.
This isn't Marvel's only post-Return of the Jedi comic release. February will see the debut of Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, exploring Kylo Ren's journey following The Last Jedi.
