Lunar Remastered Collection Release Date Announced

The highly anticipated Lunar Remastered Collection is set to launch on April 18th, bringing the classic JRPG duology to modern consoles and PC. Developed by Game Arts and published by GungHo Online Entertainment, this collection will feature remastered versions of Lunar: The Silver Star and Lunar: Eternal Blue.

This release, announced during a 2024 Sony State of Play, will be available on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC (Steam), with backward compatibility for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Physical copies will be available in select North American and European stores.

The remaster boasts updated visuals, including widescreen support and enhanced pixel art, along with high-definition cutscenes. For purists, a classic mode replicates the original PS1-era graphics. Other key improvements include fully voiced dialogue in Japanese and English, plus newly added French and German subtitles. Gameplay enhancements include a combat speed-up feature and an auto-battle option with streamlined party management. These quality-of-life additions, now commonplace in remasters of older JRPGs, aim to modernize the experience without sacrificing the charm of the originals.

This release follows a successful trend of revitalizing classic JRPGs for contemporary audiences. While the collection's financial success remains to be seen, the prior collaboration between Game Arts and GungHo Online Entertainment on the Grandia HD Collection suggests a positive outlook. The Lunar Remastered Collection promises a compelling blend of nostalgia and modern convenience for both veteran fans and newcomers alike.
