Tantalus Media, the studio behind acclaimed Nintendo remasters like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and Skyward Sword HD, has been revealed as the developer of the upcoming Luigi's Mansion 2 HD for Nintendo Switch. The original Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, released on the Nintendo 3DS in 2013, saw Mario's brother tackling ghostly mansions in Evershade Valley to recover the fragments of the Dark Moon and capture King Boo.

Nintendo announced the Switch remake last September during a Nintendo Direct, confirming its June 27th release date this past March. Following a teaser trailer and the reveal of the game's file size, the developer remained a secret until recently.

Gaming news site VGC uncovered Tantalus Media's involvement, confirming their presence in the game's credits. This Australian studio is no stranger to Nintendo projects, having also worked on the Switch port of Sonic Mania and the PC port of House of the Dead, among other titles.

Zelda Remaster Studio Behind Luigi's Mansion 2 HD

Initial reviews for Luigi's Mansion 2 HD have been positive, praising it as another high-quality Nintendo remaster, similar to Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. However, the game unfortunately experienced pre-order issues mirroring those of Paper Mario, with Walmart canceling some orders.

Despite these setbacks, the confirmation of Tantalus Media as the developer comes just days before the game's release. Nintendo's practice of withholding developer information until close to launch is not unprecedented; the studio behind the Super Mario RPG remake wasn't revealed until shortly before its release. Similarly, the developer of Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey remains undisclosed, suggesting this might be a common Nintendo strategy.
