Succession star Kieran Culkin has been officially cast as a young Caesar Flickerman in Lionsgate's upcoming film, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, putting months of speculation to rest.
Lionsgate made the announcement today via X/Twitter, confirming Culkin will portray the vibrant and eccentric television host in next year's big-screen adaptation. The question of who would land the role has captivated fans since rumors first surfaced. With the official confirmation now in place, anticipation is building for Lionsgate's latest prequel.
Sunrise on the Reaping serves as another prequel for dedicated fans, set after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and well before the original Hunger Games movies starring Jennifer Lawrence. Stanley Tucci famously portrayed Caesar Flickerman throughout the original film series, which concluded in 2015, setting a high bar for Culkin's younger interpretation of the character.
"Kieran's captivating screen presence and sharp charisma make him an ideal fit for Caesar Flickerman, the disturbingly magnetic host of Panem's most brutal event," said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-President Erin Westerman in a statement. "Stanley Tucci created an unforgettable version of Caesar—now Kieran will make the role uniquely his own."

Culkin's recent performances have solidified his status in film and television, most notably as Roman Roy in Succession and Benji Kaplan in last year's A Real Pain—a role that earned him a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, and an Academy Award. Audiences may also remember him from his early work in films like 1991's Father of the Bride and 1990's Home Alone, where he starred alongside his brother, Macaulay Culkin. His rise to prominence has been built on a foundation of sharp wit and timing, making his casting as Panem's dystopian emcee a seemingly perfect fit.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is scheduled for release on November 20, 2026. The film, adapting Suzanne Collins' novel, will feature Culkin alongside a notable cast including Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, and Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy.
