What happens when you combine dinosaurs, warfare, and survival mechanics? Naturally, you get Jurassic War Survival! Coming from Phantix Games—creators of the popular title Mafia City—Jurassic War Survival carries on their tradition of bold genre mashups as it arrives in soft launch on Android for US and Puerto Rican audiences.

The game is set on Dinosaur Isle, a classic 'lost world' teeming with prehistoric life awakened by mysterious capitalist forces. However, when an unusual virus spreads across the island, infected dinosaurs begin attacking its other residents. As a former soldier, it falls to you to rescue Dinosaur Isle and uncover the true nature of the virus along with how to halt it.

In gameplay terms, this translates to traditional strategy village-building mechanics. You will construct and upgrade buildings while strengthening your defenses against waves of infected dinosaurs. Simultaneously, you'll collect and train both dinosaur species and other Jurassic creatures to join your army in defending against the infection.

Spared no expense

If my tone seems slightly critical of Jurassic War Survival, rest assured that is not entirely my intention. Phantix's previous portfolio consists largely of fairly similar strategy titles.

To be fair, leveraging the growing cultural fascination with dinosaurs appears to be a smart move. For reasons unknown, interest in giant lizards seems to have resurged. Ultimately, whether Jurassic War Survival manages to distinguish itself will depend on player reception once they start playing.
