New J-RPG Emberstoria Embarks on Tomorrow

By StellaDec 12,2024

Emberstoria, a new strategy RPG from Square Enix, launches in Japan on November 27th. The game, set in a world called Purgatory, features resurrected warriors known as Embers battling monsters. Its classic Square Enix style, including a dramatic storyline and impressive art, has already generated excitement. Players recruit various Embers, build a flying city, and experience a story voiced by over 40 actors.

While initially a Japan-only release, the game's future global availability remains uncertain. Recent news of Square Enix transferring Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent operations to NetEase raises questions about their mobile strategy. This new release might signal a shift in their approach. Emberstoria could stay Japan-exclusive, or NetEase might bring it to other regions. A straightforward global launch seems unlikely, but not entirely impossible. The eventual release method will likely reveal more about Square Enix's future mobile game plans.

The exclusivity highlights the frequent disparity between Japanese and international mobile game releases. For those intrigued, a list of other desirable Japanese mobile games is available.
