Hyper Light Breaker offers a diverse roster of characters, each with unique playstyles, to tackle the Abyss King. Unlocking new Breakers is relatively straightforward, though the game doesn't explicitly explain the process. This guide covers all current characters and their acquisition. Note that this guide reflects the early access version, and the unlock method may change with future updates.
How to Get New Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
To unlock new characters, you'll need Abyss Stones, which drop exclusively from Crowns (bosses). Before facing Crowns, you must obtain Prisms—keys to the boss arenas—indicated by golden diamond icons on the map.
After defeating a Crown, return to the Cursed Outpost's teleporter. Select the Breaker you wish to unlock and spend your Abyss Stones to add them to your roster. While nine characters exist, currently only two are unlockable via Abyss Stones. The unlock method for remaining characters is yet to be determined.
All Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
Each character begins with a SyCom, a key item defining their base stats and core perk, and thus their playstyle. Here's a breakdown of each character:
Vermillion
Vermillion, the starting character, uses the Gunslinger SyCom, favoring ranged combat. Crits with Rail shots guarantee a subsequent crit. Alternatively, unlock the Tank SyCom for melee focus, rewarding perfect parries with increased armor and offering better defensive and melee stats.
Lapis
Lapis starts with the Lightweaver SyCom, boosting Rail shot damage after Battery pickups. Unlock the Warrior SyCom to increase core stats with each upgrade, making her potentially the strongest Breaker in the long run.
Goro
Goro is a ranged glass cannon. His Astrologer SyCom accelerates Blade skill charge while shooting, while the unlockable Sniper SyCom enhances critical hit rate. High damage potential comes at the cost of fragility.
