League of Legends Reverses Unpopular Changes
Hextech Chests Are Coming Back
Riot Games has announced the return of Hextech Chests in League of Legends (LoL) after listening closely to fan feedback. In a detailed developer update posted on their website on February 27, 2025, and accompanied by a video on their YouTube channel, Riot Games outlined the changes coming to the game.
Acknowledging that recent changes didn't meet the expectations of the community, Riot stated, "Recently, we’ve made a number of changes that didn’t hit the mark for everyone. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and it’s clear that there are areas where we need to adjust."
The reintroduction of Hextech Chests was a direct response to fan demand. Riot admitted, "It’s clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests weren’t just a way to get stuff, they were an important part of making your time in League feel rewarding. We didn’t fully grasp how much this mattered to you, and that led us to make changes that missed the mark."
Starting in patch 25.05, players will once again be able to earn up to 10 Hextech Chests and keys per act, with 8 available through the free pass and 2 obtainable via the Honor system.
Exalted Mordekaiser Delayed and More Fan Feedback Changes
In other news, Riot Games has decided to delay the release of the Exalted Mordekaiser skin, as the team wants to "take more time to make sure it better delivers on its core fantasy." This delay will also affect the entire Exalted skin line, meaning fans won't see a new Exalted skin in every Act this year as initially planned.
Responding to further fan feedback, LoL will replace one of the non-Prestige skins with 25 Mythic Essence, addressing concerns about the scarcity of Mythic Essence on the paid Pass and the overabundance of champions for each seasonal theme.
In an effort to make champions more accessible, Riot Games will lower the Blue Essence cost for all champions by 50% starting in patch 25.05, following discussions about blue essence and champion shards.
Additionally, Riot Games is reversing its previous decision to reduce the frequency of Clash events. The game will revert to a monthly Clash schedule, with March's event featuring ARURF and April's event returning to the standard Summoner's Rift format.
Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop Returns
Responding to popular demand, LoL is bringing back the Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop. Your Shop is set to return in patch 25.06, followed by the Blue Essence Emporium in patch 25.07.
Riot Games emphasized their commitment to continuous improvement, stating, "We know getting League to the right place isn’t about just one set of changes. It’s about continually refining and improving the game in ways that make it better. We think today’s updates are an important step, and we’ll keep tracking how these changes feel, talking with all of you about how things are landing, and making adjustments."
