The future of Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) on PC remains unconfirmed, yet there are strong hints that it may eventually make its way to this platform. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick, in an interview with IGN on February 10, 2025, shared insights into the company's platform strategy. Zelnick mentioned that while Civilization 7 would launch on both console and PC, other titles like GTA 6 typically follow a staggered release pattern across different platforms.
GTA 6 on PC Unconfirmed, But Take-Two Shows Interest
Zelnick elaborated on Rockstar Games' historical approach, stating, "Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms." This pattern is evident with past releases such as GTA 5, which debuted on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, and finally on PC in April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018, with a PC release following in November 2019.
Although no official announcement has been made for GTA 6 on PC, Zelnick's comments suggest a strong likelihood of a future PC release. Fans had hoped for a simultaneous launch across all platforms, but the company's history indicates otherwise.
Take-Two Confident About GTA 6 Sales Across All Platforms
Zelnick emphasized the growing significance of PC as a gaming platform, noting that it can account for up to 40% of a game's total sales. He also expressed confidence in GTA 6's ability to boost console sales despite recent declines in PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S sales. "When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles," he stated.
He further predicted an uptick in console sales in 2025 due to a strong release schedule, not only from Take-Two but also from other publishers. "So I'm not concerned about that [console sales falling]. I think the trend that you'd want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC," Zelnick added.
GTA 6 is slated for release in Fall 2025, but specific dates remain undisclosed. For the latest updates on Grand Theft Auto 6, be sure to visit our dedicated page.
More Take-Two and Rockstar Games Possibly Releasing on Switch 2
During the Take-Two Interactive Q3 Fiscal Conference Call on February 6, 2025, Zelnick highlighted their interest in expanding to the Switch 2 console. He noted their long-standing relationship with Nintendo and the evolving demographics of Switch users. "The Switch device can support any audience," he remarked, indicating a shift from its initial focus on younger gamers.
With the upcoming Civilization 7 already planned for Switch, Zelnick expressed optimism about future support for the platform. "As you may have noted, Civilization 7 is now on Switch. So while we have nothing specific to report, we actually would fully expect to support Switch," he concluded.
