Hello fellow gamers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 29th, 2024! Today's update features a substantial lineup of new releases, which will form the core of this Thursday's column, as is customary. We'll also explore a noteworthy selection of new sales. That's pretty much the extent of it for today – we can't have Nintendo Directs every single day, right? Let's dive into the games!
Featured New Releases
Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club ($49.99)
The Famicom Detective Club series returns after a lengthy hiatus. This latest installment stays true to the originals, for better or worse. A brand-new mystery awaits, presented in a style reminiscent of the recent Switch remakes. Can you crack the case of the latest serial killings? I'll be sharing my thoughts in an upcoming review.
Gundam Breaker 4 ($59.99)
Mikhail has already penned an extensive review, so I'll direct you there for a comprehensive look at the gameplay and Switch performance. In short, you build and battle Gunplas. While the Switch version naturally lags behind others in performance, it's perfectly playable. Read Mikhail's insightful review – it's a must-read!
Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn ($19.99)
Tengo Project continues its impressive streak of remakes/reimaginings. Following the success of Wild Guns Reloaded, The Ninja Saviors, and Pocky & Rocky, they tackle an 8-bit classic. This differs significantly from the source material. However, if you crave a classic-style action-platformer, this is a solid choice. My review will be published early next week.
Valfaris: Mecha Therion ($19.99)
A Valfaris sequel, but with a twist. This is a 2.5D side-scrolling shooter, a departure from the original. While the genre shift might surprise some, it's a worthwhile experience. Another review is on its way!
Nour: Play With Your Food ($9.99)
I'll admit, I'm a bit puzzled by this one. The food visuals are stunning, but the gameplay remains a mystery. Photography? Secret-finding? Perhaps Mikhail will investigate further – it seems right up his alley.
Monster Jam Showdown ($49.99)
If you're a fan of monster trucks, this might be for you. It features both local and online multiplayer, alongside various game modes. Reception on other platforms was mixed, but monster truck enthusiasts have limited options.
WitchSpring R ($39.99)
I believe this is a remake of the original WitchSpring, a mobile title often compared to the Atelier series. At this price point, however, it's closer to a full-priced Atelier game, which makes the value proposition less clear. Still, it looks like the best-looking WitchSpring yet.
Depths of Sanity ($19.99)
An underwater exploration game with a fantastical horror twist. You investigate your missing crew in a vast, perilous underwater world. Combat is involved. It's well-received on other platforms and should find a fanbase on Switch.
Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire ($19.99)
Voltaire, a vegan vampire, rebels against his bloodthirsty father. This translates into farming and action gameplay. While I'm personally a bit fatigued by the genre, it might appeal to those who enjoy farming sims with a combat element.
Marble Abduction! Patti Hattu ($11.79)
A marble roller game with seventy stages and eighty marbles to collect. Secret collectibles and challenges add replayability. If you enjoy fast-paced marble games, this one delivers.
Leo: The Firefighter Cat ($24.99)
A kid-friendly firefighting game with twenty missions. While other firefighting games lean towards realism, this one caters to a younger audience.
Gori: Cuddly Carnage ($21.99)
A grotesque action game starring a hoverboarding cat. While the core gameplay is solid, the Switch version suffers from technical issues affecting the overall experience.
Arcade Archives Finalizer Super Transformation ($7.99)
A 1985 Konami vertical shooter featuring a transforming robot protagonist. It's a charming, classic shooter in the vein of Xevious.
EGGCONSOLE Xanadu Scenario II PC-8801mkIISR ($6.49)
An early expansion pack introducing a new underworld to explore. Gameplay is similar to the first game, but more challenging. Noteworthy for featuring the debut work of legendary composer Yuzo Koshiro.
The Backrooms: Survival ($10.99)
A blend of horror, survival, and roguelite elements. Supports up to ten online players, which is the ideal way to play. The solo experience is more niche due to its repetitive nature.
Can of Wormholes ($19.99)
A clever puzzle game where you, a sentient tin can, must deal with worms. One hundred handcrafted puzzles keep things fresh. A strong contender for puzzle game fans.
Ninja I & II ($9.99)
Two NES-style microgames with a ninja twist. Competitive, designed for local multiplayer or against the CPU.
Dice Make 10! ($3.99)
A surprisingly fun game with two modes: falling blocks and a wood-block-style puzzle. The goal is to create rows or columns where dice faces add up to ten or multiples of ten.

That's it for today, folks! We'll be back tomorrow to wrap up the week with more new releases, sales, and news. Perhaps some reviews as well. A major typhoon is passing through, so there's a slight chance I might miss tomorrow's update. We'll see. Have a great Thursday, and thanks for reading!
