Formovie Episode One Hardware Review: Projection Paradise?

By ClaireMay 20,2025

At Droid Gamers, we often receive a variety of gadgets, but the Formovie Episode One projector caught our attention due to its potential to enhance mobile gaming experiences on a larger screen. Designed for those on a budget, this projector promises to deliver a cost-effective solution, and we believe it achieves this goal, despite some minor drawbacks.

Upon unboxing, you'll find the projector, a remote (batteries not included), a power cable, and a manual. While the Episode One feels sturdy, it lacks the substantial weight of pricier models. However, this lighter build enhances its portability, weighing in at just three pounds, making it easy to carry around.

For connectivity, the Episode One includes a single USB-A port, one HDMI port, and an audio jack. While this may not satisfy everyone's needs, it's quite adequate for most users, considering the projector's price point.

Performance-wise, the Episode One performs admirably for its cost. With 150 ISO lumens, it's not the brightest or most powerful laser-based projector on the market. It struggled in direct sunlight during our tests, but excelled in darker environments, as expected. Whether it was movies, TV shows, or streamed games, everything was displayed with clarity.

For optimal image quality, we found that the projector needed to be positioned at least 10 feet away from the screen. The sound quality from the built-in speaker was acceptable but a bit tinny. For a better audio experience, we recommend connecting an external speaker to the Episode One.

The user interface of the Episode One is user-friendly and straightforward, making setup and navigation a breeze. Its budget-friendly design actually simplifies the process compared to some more expensive, complex projectors we've encountered.

Overall, the Formovie Episode One is an excellent entry-level projector. While it may not excel in any single aspect, it's a reliable all-rounder that should meet the needs of most casual users effectively.
