Who Is Muse?
Muse is a relatively new addition to Daredevil's rogues gallery, created by Charles Soule and Ron Garney, and first appeared in 2016's Daredevil #11. Soule has confirmed Muse's presence in the D23 footage, solidifying his role in the upcoming series.
Muse is a villain who could easily fit into the dark narrative of the "Hannibal" TV series. He's a serial killer who views murder as the ultimate artistic expression. His debut showcased him painting a mural with the blood of a hundred missing persons, and later arranging the corpses of six Inhumans into a macabre composition.
Muse's danger to Daredevil is heightened by his ability to act as a sensory black hole, disrupting Matt Murdock's radar sense. Combined with his superhuman strength, speed, and a profound talent for murder, Muse stands as one of Daredevil's most lethal foes.

Muse quickly becomes a nemesis to Daredevil and his sidekick, Blindspot. Their rivalry escalates when Muse blinds Blindspot, leading to a fierce confrontation. When Daredevil finally apprehends Muse, the villain breaks his own fingers to prevent further "artistic" creations. However, after his hands are healed, Muse escapes and resumes his deadly spree in New York City.
Obsessed with the city's vigilantes, Muse leaves grotesque tributes to figures like the Punisher, even as Mayor Wilson Fisk cracks down on vigilante activity. This leads to a rematch with Blindspot, who taps into the power of The Beast to defeat Muse. In a dramatic finale, Muse, feeling outshined by Blindspot, commits suicide by walking into a fire. This confrontation occurred in 2018's Daredevil #600, and Muse has remained dead since. Yet, in the Marvel Universe, his return seems inevitable.

Muse in Daredevil: Born Again
The trailers for "Daredevil: Born Again" confirm Muse's presence in the series, though the actor portraying him remains undisclosed. Muse appears in a costume strikingly similar to his comic counterpart, featuring a white mask and bodysuit with red, bloody tears. In the NYCC trailer, he's seen battling Daredevil.
Despite sharing its name with the iconic 1986 Daredevil storyline by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli, "Born Again" draws inspiration from more recent Daredevil comics. While the original comic focuses on Wilson Fisk discovering Daredevil's identity and dismantling Matt Murdock's life, the series introduces a different narrative. Fisk already knows Daredevil's identity in the MCU, and the trailers suggest a new direction with Daredevil and Fisk forming an alliance against a looming threat.
One scene shows Daredevil and Fisk meeting at a diner, where Matt warns Fisk of consequences if he oversteps. Fisk's response, "Is that coming from Matt Murdock… or your darker half?" hints at the complexity of their relationship. This new threat seems significant enough to force these rivals into an uneasy alliance.

Could Muse be that threat? The MCU's portrayal of Daredevil's world seems to be inspired by Charles Soule and Chip Zdarsky's comics. Post-credits scenes from "Echo" indicate Fisk's ambition to become mayor, and the latest "Born Again" trailer suggests he has succeeded. Fisk's campaign focuses on ending vigilante activity, directly opposing Muse's glorification of vigilantes like Frank Castle.
Muse could be the common enemy that unites Daredevil and Mayor Fisk. Daredevil seeks to stop a ruthless killer, while Fisk aims to eliminate a threat to his authority. This alliance, though fraught with tension, could be essential to combat Muse's reign of terror.
"Born Again" will also feature other vigilantes like Jon Bernthal's Punisher and White Tiger, likely caught in the crosshairs of Fisk's anti-vigilante crusade. Muse's twisted artwork may glorify these figures, complicating the narrative further.
The series may still hinge on the intense rivalry between Daredevil and Fisk, but Muse emerges as the immediate and pressing threat to Matt Murdock's world. With his unique powers and insatiable bloodlust, Muse could be Daredevil's most challenging adversary yet. Fortunately, he has an unlikely ally in Mayor Fisk.
